Nigeria SARS and police have been bound from wearing mufti click for more infor

The Lagos State Police Command on Thursday, July 12, warned that any policeman who carries out operational duties in mufti will be sanctioned. The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, Mr Edgal Imohimi, made this known during the 3rd Stakeholders’ Security Meeting on Security Policing, organised by the Area ‘D’ Command, Mushin, with the theme: ‘Policing the Community by the Community.’

Imohimi, however, disclosed that only certain policemen were allowed to wear jackets with the inscriptions of their units on them.

Imohimi said:

“Henceforth, no policeman should carry out operational duties in Lagos in mufti without police uniform. The only units allowed to wear jackets with the inscription of his unit on it are the Anti Cultism unit, Anti Kidnapping unit, RAIDER; and the Federal Special Anti Robbery Squad, FSARS.

“Every other policeman on operational duties must be in uniform. They will only be in mufti only if they are attached to the investigation unit of the command.

“We don’t want any policeman to cause us any embarrassment.”

In an attempt to buttress what he has said with action, the Command boss revealed that the two policemen, who allegedly assaulted a lawyer last week in Ikoyi area of Lagos, would be demoted in ranks, for wearing plain clothes to effect the arrest of the legal practitioner.

As according to him, ballots cancelled for various infractions amounted to 40988 which is higher than the margin of lead. He therefore, called on the electorate to exercise patience, while the commission fixes a new date to conclude the exercise in the affected 44 Polling Units in 28 Registration Areas. However, the results as announced, indicates that Ahmed Umar Fintiri, candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), is leading in the Governorship race in Adamawa state. Fintiri polled 367,471 votes, while the incumbent governor, Jibrilla Bindow of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), scored 334,995.
